Alternative Assets
Real assets, explained.
How tangible, non-traditional assets work as a market, and where our role begins and ends.
Alternative assets are holdings that sit outside listed equities, bonds and cash, often physical items such as commodities or collectibles. This page is general information about that market and about the work Jura Capital does in it. It is not an offer of an investment and it is not investment advice.
- Physical rather than listed
- Tangible
- Narrow, expert markets
- Specialist
- Not traded on demand
- Illiquid

How these markets work
Priced by scarcity, not by a screen.
Tangible assets are not priced continuously. Value depends on provenance, condition, scarcity and the depth of a specialist buyer market, which means valuations are estimates and can be wrong. Prices can fall as well as rise, and selling can take time.
- Provenance and condition materially affect value
- No daily price and no exchange to sell into
- Storage, insurance and authentication all carry cost
Characteristics
What Distinguishes Real Assets
Different, rather than better, than listed markets.
Physical holdings
Items with a real-world existence, condition and history.
Low correlation, not low risk
Prices move differently from listed markets, and value can be lost.
Scarcity-driven pricing
Value depends on supply, demand and a narrow specialist market.
Specialist markets
Knowledge and relationships matter more than platforms.
Categories
The Categories We Follow
The parts of the real asset market our research covers.
These assets are not traded on exchanges or investment platforms. They are understood through specialist knowledge, which is why our work here is mostly research and explanation. Nothing in these categories is offered through this website.

Context
Why Real Assets Attract Attention
The points below are observations about how these markets behave, not reasons to invest.
- Historical and cultural significance affects demand
- Pricing is periodic rather than continuous
- Behaviour can differ from listed markets, in both directions
- Illiquidity means exit depends on finding a specialist buyer
Our Role
Introducer, Not Asset Manager
A narrow role, stated plainly.
Jura Capital does not advise, manage or pool capital, and does not hold client money or client assets. We follow these markets, publish commentary on them and, where appropriate, make introductions. The questions we ask about any real asset include:
Who the specialists are and what their record is
Whether provenance and chain of custody can be evidenced
How the asset would eventually be sold, and to whom
Whether the structure, storage and costs are clear
Restrictions
Who These Markets Are Open To
Access is restricted by the rules that apply to unlisted offerings.
Unlisted offerings may generally only be communicated to defined categories of investor. Those categories are set by regulation and by the people running the offering, not by Jura Capital, and nothing is offered through this website.
High-Net-Worth Individuals
A category defined in UK regulation.
Sophisticated Investors
A category defined in UK regulation, based on relevant experience.
